I get the feeling no one knows what I am talking about with the last post (even though there is a link directly to the article).
Last week our good buddy Beck told his faithful followers to go to their Church website and look for the words "social justice" or "economic justice." He, well let me just post his exact words here:
"I beg you look for the words social justice or economic justice on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words for Communism and Nazism."
And later he said: "Am I advising people to leave their church? Yes!"
I need to find out if he has a e-mail account or something like that where he personally reads all the responses. Cause I'd let this man know he needs to follow his own advice and LEAVE HIS CHURCH!!!
I took his challenge, and I found the words, with ease. One of my all time favorite Church leaders, President James E. Faust, used the phrase in an old 1995 talk. This was before Beck joined the Church so maybe he doesn't count it. I sure wish he would though. I wouldn't be bothered by this man at all if he didn't share my religion. I could ignore him easily enough if he didn't bring religion into politics.
I just can't believe people don't see him for what he is. A money making, hate spewing, false prophet.
Howard Stern, Bill O'Reilly, all the other far-left and far-right nut cases are easy enough to ignore. But my body boils each time Beck makes national news coverage with one of his idiotic outbursts. I just know it gives my faith, something I love and cherish so much, one more easy knock down. I can sacrifice the hits when it comes to abortion or polygamy or anything else that really matters. But I sure hope most Americans are smart enough to disassociate this fool with my faith. And if you read the comments on that article, I think they are. Some really nice Christian folk stood up for us on there, and they weren't LDS people.
Ugh, I just really really really want him to lead by example and denounce his own faith. I use to think the LDS Church was big enough for the two of us, but I don't anymore. You bring religion into politics Glenn, and I'll smack you upside the head if I ever get the chance. How's that for good Christian living?

I disagree with leaving religion out of politics. I think when you are passionate about your religion, it spills over into every aspect of your life. Socialism is pretty much the law of consecration...but forced. Do I believe in Socailism, a Utopia, etc? Of course but I don't think it can be achieved headed by men. THat is why it works in the church, it is headed by Christ. I don't like how Glenn takes the Lord's name in vain and a few other things but is it possible he is pointing out secret combinations? We are in the last days. I don't know everything going on and I don't even listen to Glenn very much anymore but there is something to him. Like him or hate him, most people know of him.
Who the heck is this Anonymous person, anyway? Too chicken to put his/her name out there. That speaks volumes does it not? He/she is as scary as Beck.
I well remember a few years back a candidate for president by the name of Bo Gritz. In fact he won more votes in Utah than Bill Clinton -- does that surprise anyone?! Anyway, good ol' Bo would have been a Becker I'm sure. He ran on the platform of "Guns, Guts and Glory" all in the name of God -- loved to instill fear in everybody. He too was a Mormon. I hated it everytime they mentioned his religion because he was such an embarrassment and most Americans knew it. Shortly after the compaign he either left the church or was excommunicated. I was grateful to learn of that "good news." There is hope sister.
Oh, and for the sake of Anonymous, I'd take a Harry Reid any day over a Glenn Beck or a Mitt Romney.
Love, Pa
P.S. By the way, Faust was both a Delta boy and a Democrat (served in the Utah State Legislature prior to being called as a General Authority).
I am a great respecter of opinions. To each his own. That is probably one thing that makes this country so great. Freedom of speech. But... I have zero respect for someone's opinion when they do not have the courage to take credit for it. So thanks Liz, Polly, and Scott for sharing and having the courage to let us know what you think. "Anonymous" your opinion (totally separate from you) is worthy of.....drum roll please......the garbage can! Mother of the daughter who talks to herself!
Hi Liz, I found your blog on Facebook, hope you don't mind :)
I confess that I didn't read the article so my opinion of Glenn Beck is based purely on his tv show and a little bit on his radio show, which I have watched here and there. Overall I think Beck does more good than harm. He talks about religion a lot on his show. He encourages people to pray and go to church and focus on their families. Sure he says things that are a little wack, but so do people in Testimony meeting or even occasionally in Sunday School.
All members of the church have to worry about the example we're setting, Glenn Beck and Harry Reid especially. I don't think we should throw anyone out for being a little crazy. Once people get too extreme in either direction they usually find their way out of the church by themselves. I'm fairly conservative so I'm sure I don't find him as strange as you do.
Hey sis I am back. Finally clicked on your link to blabbering idiot and read that article. Also clicked on a bio for Glen Beck and read that article. Gave me an insight into the man behind the show. He joined the church and is very much into Cleon Skousen. Which, along with his past, lets me see where he is coming from. No I do not agree with him or his philosophies. I do believe in social and economic justice. How that is to be achieved is the question. One of my all time favorite quotes is from President Benson: "The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in. The world would take people out of the slums. Christ takes the slums out of people, and then they take themselves out of the slums. The world would mold men by changing their environment. Christ changes men, who then change their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but Christ can change human nature." Ensign 1989 Born of God. It is all a matter of the heart. Where we are concerned less with self and more with others. A world where we desire not to work solely for our own gain but for the benefit of mankind. I will close with a sentence from one of my most favorite hymns:
"Because I have been given much I too must give." Have a great one. Mom
