We Keep it Classy Around Here

Today reminded me of just how classy Ben and I really are. It also reminded me of how much I love my simple little life.

We started the morning with a trip to Goodwill. We had planned on going to a cool kite festival on Lake Michigan, but Ben wanted to see a Dr about some dizziness he'd been having. Health trumped the festival and he made an appointment for first thing in the morning (Goodwill happened after he came home). Anyway, I took my turn scrounging through the kids clothes while he watched the kids in the toy aisle, and then he took his turn scrounging the whole store for anything -- cause the man loves second hand stores. So there I was, letting my children play with toys we had no intention of buying, when Ben walks up to me and shows me his great finds. His face was beaming as he held up two cassettes. My thoughts: why do they even sale these? Who on Earth buys cassettes? And just as I started to ask "Why are you bu--"

We both looked at each other and laughed "Cause our car has a cassette player."

Yup, our "new" van is so old it doesn't even have a CD player, just a cassette player. We spent the rest of the day rocking to Creedence Clearwater Revival.

When trying to think of ways to spend our evening (wow, I just referred to the hours between 4 and 7 as evening, I must have small children in the house), Ben suggested a date night at the grocery store. At first I was a little taken aback. We do shop together while our kids are playing at the tot spot, but I've never thought of that "luxury" as a date night. The I realized he meant we should go to the town North of us and visit their Festival. It is a newer store and while it has the same tot spot, it also boasts a beautiful raised seating area. Just below is a hot bar, with a wide range of food. Ben has sushi and I had a salad with Turkey Pot Roast.

We are super classy. We honest to goodness dropped our kids off at the grocery store play area, ordered some items from their hot bar, ate dinner in a glorified break room, and were super proud of it all. I'm not sure which made Ben happier, his date night idea or finding 20 individual greek yogurts discounted to $0.25. The poor cashier had to punch the discount in by hand. Twenty times. All while some other employee babysat our kids. For free. It is no wonder I love Festival Foods.  

Since the kids needed to eat, we took them to McDonald's and let them go wild on the Play Palace. I must say, it was the fanciest/cleanest/safest Play Palace I've ever seen. I already promised Reid we'll be going back. I have every intention of spending two lunches a month there once our bitter cold winter arrives. 

A beautiful rainbow greeted us when we finally headed home. I'm not sure I've ever seen a rainbow so bright and clear. Identifying all seven colors was a breeze. The picture does it no justice. We could see the entire bow, there was a fainter rainbow just above, and at one point we could even see all seven colors repeated, like a double rainbow within just one bow. It was amazing.
