Family Birthday Party

A few years back we decided to start celebrating our anniversary as if it were our family birthday (because it is!). This year we full on partied! Friday night Ben and I went on a date (an Indian restaurant and Costco). But Saturday was the real fun.

We put the kids to work, picking up sticks around the yard (remember that huge storm I mentioned happening on Thursday?). Reid even mowed most the front lawn. We also had them do a bit of cleaning around the house, all this with a promise that we'd do something extra fun in the afternoon if they worked really hard with a good attitude the whole way through the morning.

So once Mara woke up from her nap, we all put our swimsuits on and headed to Omro pool. Ben's never been to Omro pool (we just discovered it for the first time late last summer break). It's smaller than Oshkosh's pool, but that has it's advantages -- it's easy to keep an eye on everyone. Reid spent most of an hour jumping off the diving board. Coraline was brave enough to go down the slide by herself (that particular slide had a pretty slow start, but definitely shot her out into the deep (for her) at the end). She loved it and did it at least a half dozen times. This was nice because then I could take all three girls to the slides while Ben played a bit with Reid in the (actual) deep end.

We only stayed about an hour and a half, but it felt like we did so much! Back at home we all showered and dressed as quick as possible so we could head to the Chinese buffet for dinner. Now that I'm writing about this a week late, it doesn't sound all that special or exciting. I'm not capturing the witty conversations or sweet nuances shared between siblings. But I do know it was a perfect afternoon that really helped make our upcoming family birthday feel extra special.
