No Way! No How!

I would never subject my child to the misfortune of hearing the President of the United States of America's words, no matter who he is. How can we allow such wretchedness to burn our young ones ears, minds and very souls? This is madness and if I had a child I would most definitely keep them home on Tuesday of next week.

Luckily, I don't have any children and won't have to worry about the detriment such actions will cause. As a sweet little 3rd grader I was subject to the following: (please note, I currently teach at what was then Alice Deal Jr High School -- now Alice Deal Middle School)

As a result of this speech, I believed in the "America 2000" goals. I knew that America would be the best in the world in subjects like math and science by the time I graduated High School. Imagine my disappointment when the statistics showed me children from impoverished Asian countries had more math skills than I did. I was heart broken when my dreams of having drug free schools, a goal set at the heart of America 2000, was not brought to fruition. By the time I reached 6th grade I was asked to be in a gang, that was not part of America 2000's safe schools goal. Day after day I had to revisit the impact this speech had on me. The disappointments and pains were unbearable. It ruined my life!

If we let Obama speak to our children, the same terrible things will happen. He will tell kids to succeed and educate themselves, to improve our society. And then, all Hell will break loose. I beg of you, stop this madness. Do not let this public figure enter our public schools uncensored and unauthorized. Who does he think he is? The President?

Oh you should listen to the Utah right wing whiners. They are really putting up a fuss. Refusing to send their kids to school on Tuesday, etc. etc. Pathetic times are upon us because of the agenda of the conservative right. Reminds me of WWII and Nazi Germany. Hope we don't fall for the likes of Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. Their propaganda may lead some down the "slippery slope" of destruction.

I hear some schools in good old U-T are even refusing to show it. My response to that: the government should refuse to fund them!

Seriously, this whole thing is ridiculous and it angers me. Do I need to send a permission slip home every time I teach my students a new idea? Because I'm pretty sure that happens on a daily basis. If you want to brainwash your child with your own personal agendas, then pull them out of public school and homeschool them.

LOL!!! And last I checked, asking kids to stay in school and avoid drugs wasn't a new idea.

Holy Cow! I cannot believe the way people are responding to this! Some of Annie's coworkers even had the audacity to say if it was Bush they would give their enthusiastic thumbs up, but no way to the current US President. Seriously? Are you that prejudiced? Are you that close minded? Are you really against education? One of Annie's students also said (I didn't get too much wrath from the 1st graders) said her parents were "passionately opposed to the speech." Annie's reply: "You mean they are passionately against education? Why are you here?" Ha, ha. Anyway, let's be grateful for the freedom the US brings us and uphold the democracy, and its head, that we are a part of! Sheesh! The end. :)
