The rain

It rained today.

Actually, it has rained a lot lately. I think I mentioned the creeks we had running along all sides of our yard a couple weeks ago.

Anyway, I just want to say how grateful I am that the rain stayed out of our basement. We have been flood free this year.

Those sump pumps have been working like crazy -- and I appreciate it!

I always laugh when I read "what to look for when you buy a home" lists. There always seems to be some comment on avoiding houses with dehumidifiers in their basement. I feel like there should be an asterisk by that one. **Unless you live in the Midwest Great Lakes Area, then only buy a home that has a dehumidifier in the basement**

I'm reminded that it was this time two years ago that we started house shopping. Like all couples we had our list, but "dry basement" wasn't on it. Yet somehow "dry basement" quickly became the deciding factor in our decision making process. After smelling the funk in some basements and having a handful of people cancel on us due to flooding -- we came back here and found a dry to the bone basement.

Sold!

Prayers for many more Springs of dry basements, working sump pumps, and must have dehumidifiers!

P.S. Reid can't go down into the basement without taking a look at the sump pump in the storage room (yes, we have two). He is fascinated by the water in the hole of our house. Rightly so, I suppose.

Let's just hope and pray those sumps keep on working. Make sure you give them a trial run from time to time. Nothing's worse than getting home to realize the motor had burned out and you don't have a backup! Trust me, I know. Pa
