My First 5K

Before I say how my 5K went, I want to post my Friday workout. Here it is:

"Today I swam in the rain. It was just a sprinkle but I could feel it every now and then. The great part is I swam 40 lengths. That's about 1000 meters. I only have to do 750 for the race so I was really proud. And I didn't ever even stop for breathe. And I didn't even do the back stroke for like the last 25 lengths. It felt so great. Can't wait to do it again."

It really did feel so good. I got a mouthful of chlorine in my mouth cause I couldn't stop smiling about my accomplishment. I felt like I was really ready for my Triathlon. I even have my suit now.
(Isn't my honey so sweet? He buys me flowers all the time. Cause he loves me, and sometimes cause I'm mad at him and we have to make up, but usually it's the first anyway . . .).

So I was feeling really ready for my triathlon, cause I thought the swimming was going to be the hard part. But I was wrong. Running 3.1 miles SU-HUCKS! I stared out all right. Troop 66 was running behind me and chanting cadences all the way. I thought to myself, this is good, if I can keep up with them I'll be proud of myself. And I did, I finished just ahead of them, granted they stopped in the Pentagon parking lot and did like 100 push-ups and sit-ups. Which was very thoughtful (and a little crazy) of them, it gave me time to catch up. But still, 70-year-old men, 8-year-old girls, and a dude in a wheelchair all passed me in the last mile. When I stopped to walk cause my poor aching feet and burning heart just couldn't take it anymore. So, I made my goal of finishing with the troops but I didn't make my time goal of 30 mins. I guess it's hard to walk a mile in 10 mins. So I ended 38.20. So sad I know. But here are some pictures of me crossing the finish line. Which was the important part, crossing that line.

But I really don't want to walk any of my Triathlon so I'm enlisting myself in another 5K. I just have to be able to do this. This taste of the race really got me excited for my Tri. I wish I could do more than 1 this season. Next year.

Some other notes, cause my posts always have to be soooooo long. One of my former students (from the first two weeks of class with 10th graders) got put out of class for saying my name. Yeah, the new teacher doesn't like me so much. But I can't help it that my students want me back, what can I say I'm adorbale. I just thought it was funny that he got kicked out of class for saying my name. Like I'm Lord Voldemort or something.

And this weekend I made some Malaysian treats. It was fun to go to the Asian supermarket for my ingredients. I found some moon cake and bought it, even though it is so DISGUSTING!!! I wanted Ben to try it. I took a little nipple, and it's just as gross as I remember it. No wonder I stuffed so much moon cake in my shoe during my days in Malaysia. My companion learned to pull our bikes over once we rounded the corner, so I could pour all the smooshed up cakes out of my shoes.

I have never heard of stuffing gross food in a shoe before, so thanks for that tip! That's so funny. Good job on all the running and good luck in your triatholon. That is awesome!

I'm glad to hear about the race, I've been waiting to see how it went! I think you will do great at the triathalon! I'm sure you will have a lot of adrenaline to keep you going! And nice job on the swimming! That's impressive! I need to try some swimming I think, I haven't since like 8th grade PE with Esther Duncan!

Go Liz!! You'll only get better at running. Just take it a little easier at the first and save some energy for the end! I love that Ben buys you roses when you're mad at him. Maybe he should teach Cory a thing or two!

Go Liz!!! You inspire me. You do so much already, AND train for a triathalon!!! You are the woman. I am actually going to sign up for a 5k in Nov. I am excited to get going:). Congrats on finishing, you can only get better!

Lizzie, I'm something impressed by your swimming! My half-marathon is this Saturday but I'm too chicken. I'm more than ready but I get anxiety something fierce as it gets closer. Heck, I was going to do the Peach Days 10K, smaller than the 4th of July in Delta, but I chickened. I really don't want to run by myself, and I have this phobia of being the very last person to finish. Stupid, I know! Anyway, you go girl! And cute suit!!!!
