Answer Me This

Okay, I have a confession to make. One of my favorite blogs is a Catholic blog. I don't confess this in a "isn't that bad?" sort of way, but rather a" isn't that surprising?" sort of way. Well, it surprises me at least, and here's why.

#1 I don't get sucked into blogs that are written by people I don't know in real life. Notice my blog roll? I know each of those people for realsies.*

#2 Kendra at Catholic All Year writes about ... well, being Catholic -- which I am not. She writes about homeschooling -- which I'll never do. She writes about life as a mother of seven -- which is more than thrice my two. She shares random opinions -- that I don't always agree with.

BUT, I still find myself checking in on her blog about once a week. So, I guess I just really enjoy her writing.

Which brings me to my main point. She also has a very interactive blog. Remember my purse dump? I got the idea from her, it was a link up. I've never done a link up, never. Even when I did the purse dump I didn't actually link up. I do quick takes sometimes, but I don't link up to other quick takes. I guess I'm just a blog poacher. I poach ideas from others. I do usually give them credit, but I don't go to their linky parties. Does that make me a rude blogger? Probably. Who knows.

Anyway, I'm clueless about what to write for today, but Kendra just so happens to have a new link up party going on. She hosts an answer me this game, and this week's questions are intriguing and applicable (enough) to me that I'm gonna participate. Will I link up? Probably not. Every party needs a pooper.

1. What did you and your family wear to Mass Church on Easter Sunday?

Not our best family shot from yesterday (for that, see yesterday's post), but the best shot of what we wore. My blouse is from Kohl's, the undershirt I should have tucked into my skirt is from Down East, and my favorite maxi skirt is from The Buckle. Ben is wearing the tie he wore on our wedding day (I think we bought it at TJ Maxx -- eight years ago) and I have no idea where the rest of his outfit came from. Costco? Reid and Nell are both in a mix of hand-me-downs and Carters. We did not pre-plan these outfits. We just picked them out as we got ready for Church. Matchy enough for a family photo, right?

2. Easter Bunny: thumbs up or thumbs down?

Thumbs up, way up. I believe in the magic of childhood. I don't want to take the excitement of Santa and the Easter Bunny away from my kids, even if their roots are pagan. They are symbols of love and of giving. And isn't that a simple childhood summary of our Savior's life, love and giving?

3. Do you prefer to celebrate holidays at your own house or at someone else's house?

Depends on the holiday. I've always loved the holidays we have spent at home (except for maybe the 4th of July -- it's my favorite holiday and I always want to spend it with family). Ben and I spent most our DC Thanksgivings in DC and I loved each of them, even the ones we celebrated with just our little family (when my parents and brother came out for Thanksgiving we celebrated by eating at an Indian restaurant). We've only ever spent one Christmas at our house (apartment in DC), and we probably spent most the day packing for our big move to Wisconsin. But I do look forward to more Christmases at our house, with our little family. I've loved having Ben's parents come stay at our house for the last two Easters. So I guess I don't really have a straight answer, it doesn't just depend on the holiday (Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, or Christmas), but it also depends on which of our siblings are where.

4. What is your favorite kind of candy?

Licorice. Always has been, always will be.

5. Do you like video games?

Overall, no! I've had periods of my life where I've loathed them, for problems of my own. But I do admit I love Nintendo. Give me a Mario game and a Nintendo system and I'll play for a bit. I look forward to enjoying the Wii with my kids as they get older. Some winter days just call for a little Nintendo. Ben, he loves video games. I have some good memories of playing Super Mario Brothers on the Wii with him while we lived in DC. He doesn't love Nintendo, but it was a way for us to do something he loved, the only way I tolerate it.

6. Do you speak another language?

Just English. Different variations of English, yes. Like Singlish and some Ebonics (it is a real language, with real grammar rules -- trust me). I mastered broken English in Malaysia. I also picked up some Bahasa Malay and Iban -- but I was only about as good as the spirit needed me to be. I took French in middle school ... but it is long gone, despite having parents who both speak French (fluently at the beginning of their marriage).

*I do have two exceptions to this rule (I suppose three now, if we induct Kendra). I love, love, love Mel over at Mel's Kitchen Cafe, but she writes about food, and what is not to love about food? Especially her food; her recipes have never failed me. The other exception is Ashlee Birk's The Moments We Stand, but Ashlee's story of tragedy and hope reads more like a book. A fabulous book I can not put down (and she can't update enough). Also, Ashlee and I did attend USU the same years and Mel and I lived less than 60 miles apart ... and they are both Mormon. So though I don't know them for realsies, there are those connections.

You're right, the t-shirt needed tucking in! I prefer to top half picture vs. the undergarments being advertised!! Love, Pa

Hey you decided to link up after all! I'm glad you did. And good on ya for changing the wording on the first question to fit. I know not everyone who reads my blog is Catholic, I'll have to work on alternate wordings when necessary. :0)

And *I* was going to say I liked the camisole out. But I don't want to disagree with your dad. So I won't.
