Fabulous Weekend

I was so glad to have Ben home this weekend. Having him away for a few days sure made me realize how much I love him. Here are some pictures of our latest adventures.



Saturday afternoon we went to a Georgetown Basketball game. Go Hoyas! They won the Big East Title, it was an exciting game. The crowd wasn't quite as good as the Spectrum, and our seats weren't as good either.



Friday night we went out for Thai food. I'm so glad he loves Asian food as much as I do!










These pictures are from a couple weeks ago when we went to the Baltimore Aquarium. If you look closely you can see the Sharks behind me. Watch out!

I love tags!

Really, I just love any excuse to blog. Especially this week. Ben is spending his Spring Break with his family in Illinois and I'm all alone. Well, here it goes. . .

10 years ago .... I was a freshman in high school. My pants were too short and too big and I had lovely braces; it's amazing any boys liked me. I was best friends with Haley, Heidi, and Marie. We were all still really immature and in love with boys we didn't dare talk to. We had the best sleepovers, and high school dances ruled!


Snacks I enjoy.... Oreos and milk.


I enjoy...reading a good book, a nice afternoon bike ride, playing basketball, my students, and mostly BEN!


What would I do if I were suddenly made a billionaire . . . First stop, Kuching East Malaysia. I would probably bribe the Church to start a temple there. I'd pay for my Pakistani friend to come to college in the US. And of course, I'd save tons of it for my children.


3 of my bad habits. . . Leaving my stuff all around the house, picking my hang nails and then rubbing my soar thumbs over my lips, and farting . . . oops - I just hate to hold it in!


5 places I have lived. . . Utah, Virginia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Utah (I guess I only have four, so separate Delta and Logan)


5 jobs that I have had . . . Leo's Delta Freeze, which is probably my favorite, Utah State University Newspaper, Golden Corral, The Buckle (loved the discount!) and High School English Teacher. Oh, one summer I mowed lawns for USU, that was great fun.


5 things people don't know about me. . .That's a little personal, but I can't think of anything. Oh, my feet stink lately. I hate it, that never happened before I started teaching. Hmmm four more. Okay, I peed my pants at age 21 in a Blockbuster parking lot. That's really embarrassing, but it's out. I said it. Three more, as a little girl I secretly hoped Bette Middler would come kidnap me, Ben gets a good laugh out of that. Last two, I have a gazillion scrapbooks - I have the hardest time parting with pictures. And finally, I was selected to teach this reading intervention program called Read 180 and I love it. Scholastic is the sponsor and I really think it will strengthen my students reading abilities (and I made up a student and have been participating in the program as well, geeky I know). Just call my Nara Bassett!

Not forgotten

So this memory thing has had me thinking all day. I just wanted to add a couple to the list. 1. As if middle schoolers aren't dorky enough - we still played dress up at your house in the 8th grade. It was so fun. We modeled and took pictures of ourselves. Your family was always so creative when it came to sleepover time. Never got bored, always came home with something (even if it was dorky pictures). (Heidi Draper)

2. I have to stop laughing before I can even type this. How to explain. We were camping out at Porcupine Dam when we decided to go late night skinny dipping. The real thing too (not just letting our bottoms surface in the rez). Well for anyone who hasn't been to Porcupine Dam, there's lots of willows and tree limbs even out in the deeper parts of the water. We were swimming around, feeling free as a bird when all of the sudden you squealed like a dead man had grabbed your leg. Turns out you swam right over one of those willows . . . butt naked! Alright I'll stop with the memories. Maybe next time I'll share some of my most embarrassing moments. HA!

Which one are you?

I stole this idea from my friend Ali. I'm going to share some of my favorite memories from middle and high school, college, and the mission. You are to try and figure out what memory you were a part of. Good luck! I tried to get one for everyone.


1. Never ever will I forget the look on that little boy's face when you came up out of the ocean without your bikini top on. I laugh out loud even now. (Jen Hill Broderick)

2. We thought we were so cool, sitting in your families car singing "Oh Mickey your so fine your so fine you blow my mind." I think we were freshman and we wanted to drive so bad we just sat in that car singing. (Jodi Abbeglen Attkinson)

3. We were at the rez tubbing with the worlds craziest driver behind the wheel. It was basically a competition to see who could stay on the tubes the longest, so when you fell off you grabbed your partners leg and held on for dear life while ridin the water. It was hysterical. 4. I still don't believe we both got pooped on by a bird with in days of each other. Can you send me the video of that? (Sister Driggs or Budge -- how can I not remember?)

5. We were sitting outside our apartment when we saw a nude skateboarder blaze on by. I stared the best I could to figure out he was just wearing shoes.  (Kacey Swanson)

6. You tackled a boy who was tossing a football around with his buddy. I thought he would cry when your helmet hit his ribs and threw him to the ground. You're the best! (Liz Hales McCarrel, the best!)

7. "Big Bootie Big Bootie Big Bootie!" Oh, and the snipe hunt with those little beehvies. That was the best girls camp ever! I don't think I've ever told you how grateful I was when you moved into my ward. (DeAnna Smith Christensen)

8. We were so crazy. I remember a night we stayed out late just so we could drive to Denny's in Nephi. Half way to Leamington we stopped at a little contraption on the Sevier River. It was a swing, but unfortunately it was stuck on the other side of the river so one of us bright little girls shimmied across the swing line to retrieve the swing. I can still see you hanging upside down above the stinky Sevier. The best part is I have it all on tape! (Marie Lisonbee Peterson)

9. We thought it was a good idea to steal a shopping cart, tie it to the back of a suburban and ride around Quality's parking lot. Obviously we were already brain dead, had nothin to loose! (Jen, Maci, Kelli and Carolyn, I believe. Marie was probably just getting off work, and the reason we were there.)

So back in High School I was red, no surprise there, I was a power hungry teen. What we do for attention. Then on the mission I was white and blue, thanks to Julie Weldon. She's the sweetest girl ever and she really taught me to love people and give of myself. She is an amazing person and I love her forever. Now, I'm yellow. Gees, life is always changing on us. I think I'm now yellow because you can't take everything so seriously when you work with inner city teens. They keep me grounded about the things that are really important. Happiness in the hardest of life's conditions -- they inspire me.

More Babysitting

Marie is going to laugh at me when she sees I've already posted these pictures, but I had so much fun watching her Lauren on Friday night. Isn't she adorable.


I love being so far from home and still having good friends and family near by. I'm also glad the temple is so close to us and we get to act as designated babysitters! Thanks for the good weekend Peterson family.

Quite the Week

It was a big week for the cub scouts, pinewood derby! The boys were so fun to watch, I never knew they could be so excited about something so simple. Scouting has been a great calling. We get to teach the boys how to make pizzas, scrapbook, and survive a fire! I really like the adults we work with, and the parents are wonderful.

The highlight of this week was babysitting for Jon and Mel. I looked forward to playing with Jaedon all week. Together we made Muddy Buddies, played with my music box, and numerous other things. I could use half the energy that kid has. It was also fun to have Livy around. She is quite the slobbering baby. I realize I will have to get over being clean when I decide to be a mother.
